Board member of Bank Melli Iran: Iran-Philippines Economic and Banking cooperation to improve

In a meeting in Tehran, a Board member of Bank Melli Iran (BMI) and Philippines ambassador underlined the necessity of improving mutual economic and banking cooperation.

According to Public Relations Dept. of BMI, in this meeting which was held among Mahmood Shayan a Board Member of BMI, Wilfredo C. Santos Philippine Ambassador to Iran, Jose De Venecia Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Philippines president, some managers and heads of BMI and representatives from Foreign Ministry, Mahmood Shayan highlighted the relationship between Iran and 50 correspondent banks abroad and said that also, both Iranian President and Filipino officials emphasized the significance of joint investment in two countries in their meeting in Tehran and Iran is one of six countries that has Joint Economic Commission with Philippines.

He said:" Today, the role of banks in improving the relationship between countries is big. We welcome shared investment opportunities."

"One of big banks in Islamic World considering the amount of assets is Bank Melli Iran. This bank has contributed lots of national projects like petrochemical, dam building, automobile manufacturing, etc. and continues this trend now. We'd like to collaborate with Philippine on investment projects," he added.

Highlighting the vast resources of Iran and its potential for protecting interests of foreign investors and interested parties, Shayan said: "We are ready to develop banking ties and development plans of Filipino counterpart as well."

He also introduced tourism sector as another area of investment and bilateral cooperation.

Also Philippines Ambassador to Iran said: "We are here to invest. Philippines has a lot of projects to carry out in Iran especially in petrochemical units."

"Iranian economic officials considering the place of BMI in Iran have selected and offered Bank Melli Iran to facilitate investment process for both sides and doing these projects will definitely lead to a lucrative economy," he said.
